Aleisha Kraft,Education Specialist
Hi! My name is Aleisha Kraft. I am a native from Mankato, Minnesota who relocated to Florida eight years ago. My journey began when I graduated Iowa State University with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education (K-6) with an emphasis in mathematics.
After graduating, I returned to Mankato and became a substitute teacher. Simultaneously, I researched a full-time teaching position in alternative school environments. This is how I learned about Eckerd Youth Alternatives (EYA). EYA is a non-profit organization that serves at-risk youth in a therapeutic residential setting. The youth, ages 11-18 years, are admitted to the program either by a judge or through Department of Children and Families. As a dropout prevention school, I was responsible for meeting the academic requirements for 6th through 11th grade curriculum. This opportunity provided ample experience in developing and implementing differentiated and hands-on lesson plans to address the range of abilities and learning styles of individual students. Everyday was a new challenge facilitating and role modeling appropriate social / emotional, academic and career skills. Working for EYA was an amazing experience not only as a teacher and mentor, but a learner as well.
In addition to my eight years of service working at EYA, I obtained a Reading Endorsement (K-12), acquired certification to teach integrated curriculum for grades 5-9, and nearly completed a Masters in School Counseling through Argosy University. I also served staff and youth as a CPR / First Aid Instructor, Lifeguard, and Senior Ropes Course Facilitator.
I have currently earned a Master of Arts Degree in School Counseling and will be teaching the new CMP2 math curriculum at the 8th grade level at Teague Middle School. I feel honored and excited to be a part of the Learning Strategies team “to help individuals overcome learning challenges...to excel to their full potential.”
